  • the waiting game

So right now I'm sitting in our studio waiting for a client tour. These client tours often mean that we pretend to look busy, hide anything that we actually use to get work done and rehearse over and over in the studio without recording and generally not get alot done. I realize that even though these tours and meetings mean multi-million dollar partnership deals, they still seem unproductive as hell to me. This seems especially poignant to me today because we have my awesome co-worker Tabitha Russell in the studio today and she is kicking some major ass. She's so ready to sit down and hammer things out and it makes me itch to hurry up and wait. She's teaching a class on aperture, which at first I thought would be just like lightroom which we already have a class on, but seems to be a horse of a different color. I'm looking forward to my digital photography classes next semester so I can actually use all the crazy stuff I've learned. Before any of that though, I start a winter class at the community college on monday called "Natural Disasters". (its the only science class that doesn't require a lab - brillant!)
I also got a preview of our first DVD to go on sale today - Ben Willmore's course on HDR photography. According to Ben, 1 out of 4 people that attend his thousand dollar seminars will buy this dvd. Crazy! I knew he was a big deal but I had no idea that his seminar attendees were such fanatic fans. I wonder what the percentage is for people who buy concert t-shirts at a concert, it's probably not even that good. Apparently, he is not just amazing at what he does, being amazing at what he does has earned him a dedicated following.

  • This is seriously cool. because I say so.

Two posts in one day, but its totally worth it because I have to brag about the new free class I just posted on the site. It's called Creating a Podcast  and I think is one of our most complete and coolest free classes ever. Ever been interested in creating your own radio-style show or podcast? This class shows you all the how to's from editing, splicing, recording, and exporting. If I can think of anything worth saying, I'm definitely going to create my own podcast to the world. Even better, it will be all fancy and professional. I always wanted to get my hands on Apple's Garage Band and mess around a bit, and this gives me a project with the know-how to do it too. Actually, I've kind've been wanting to experiment with video blogging too (on a good hair day of course) which is also taught but in the more complete Secrets of Podcasting course. Keep your eyes out for a video cast from yours truly, possibly from Macworld (in a pink wig!).
    Woot! exciting.

  • I so need a real one.

So its been awhile.... Holidays are in full swing and I am DONE with all of my finals (and still alive!). We've had lots of pretty cool people in and out of our studio including Shellie Hall and Russell Brown of Adobe Systems. We're also rolling out new classes in Online Marketing and  Web Design which you can check out here. My personal favorite though has been all the craziness that comes with recording new Dr. Brown's Photoshop Laboratory classes.I won't spoil it for you but I spent the day battling guests in the studio with a lightsaber. Someone has to protect the galaxy....

Being released very soon this week is an experiment including building panoramas and some very strange blender activity. I can't wait to try it out on my own with my little point and shoot camera. I'll let you know how it goes
Next semester though, I'm taking a Digital Photography class and I really really want to get an SLR camera and pick up photography as  hobby. As more of a classical artist though, I don't quite know the first thing about SLR cameras except that they're expensive, and also very expensive. I have heard rumors though that a short "how to buy an SLR camera" free class is in development. I'm crossing my fingers!

  • Mmm, smallpox blankets.

So today in the office we're having a potluck thanksgiving feast, yum! I am a religious viewer of the food network and finally getting to eat turkey instead of watch it is something I'm very excited about. It got me thinking though about what I'm thankful for- I'm thankful that Thanksgiving uses the tradition of settlers giving Indians food instead of smallpox blankets. This makes for a much better family holiday, or not, depending on how much you like your family.
In all seriousness though, I'm thankful for
my job (which rocks my socks off)
my friends, who still stick close even though they're scattered across the country
getting apologies that have been a long time coming
and every opportunity I'm given, whether I deserve it or not

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
